Lately we have been fearing that Etiler was becoming a mecca for kebap and coffee houses. Our fears were not unfounded. At every corner in the neighborhood, there seems to be a kebap restaurant or a cafe. If you are tired of being served kebap wherever you go, giovanni, located upstairs to The North Shield on Nispetiye Caddesi, provides you with a pleasant alternative. Indeed, it is more than an alternative; Italian songs greet you when you step inside, and the pizza varieties on the menu, unmatched in Istanbul, make you feel as if you are in Italy.

The pizza selection contains the whole works. Seafood such as salmon, shrimp, calamari, as well as bacon, turkey and chicken, can top off your pizza. And there is more to this original fare on the menu. Lamb's ear salad with soy sauce, pineapple juice and vodka shots, folded pizzas and other tastes that may at first put you off, but which will fast make you an enthusiast, can be found only at giovanni. Although boasting a wide selection of beverages and pizza varieties, the lack of any desserts other than tiramisu constitute the only weak point in the menu. As for the prices, pizzas range between 12 YTL and 28 YTL, depending on the toppings you request. Folded pies that resemble Karadeniz pitta breads are priced from 25 YTL to 28 YTL. Furthermore, after your meal a personal toothbrush awaits you in the restaurant restroom. Thanks to that surprise item, you may descend downstairs to North Shield for drinks, as if you were not the one who had all that food.
